People all over the world will photograph themselves holding a sign with one word, which will be combined into a birthday story sent to Dan Ariely for his 50th birthday, this April 29th
If you decide to help, you’ll contribute a photo of yourself holding a sign to complete the message for Dan. Scroll down to find out how!

Don’t tag Dan or bring this to his attention in any way
If Dan asks about this project, change the subject immediately. Some suggestions: “How’s that hike going?” or “Have you heard about [insert current event here]” or the always-reliable “Do you know any jokes?”

Here we go, just a few steps...
Step 1: Assignment
Draw a randomly-selected word using the word-generator below, and your word will magically appear. Your word is the one in black (not gray).

Step 2: Preparation
Decide whether you want to print the word out or write it yourself
If you choose to print, then make sure your printer is full of black ink and print the page in landscape mode. Click here to print your word.
If you choose to write, then make sure the letters are very big and bold and fill the whole page. Write in ALL CAPS, and include any punctuation that the word-generator gave you.
Step 3: Photograph
Take a photo of yourself holding your sign (or have someone help!)
Take the photo in “landscape” mode (that means you’ll need to turn your smartphone sideways if you are using a smartphone to take the photo.
Hold the sign in the center of the photo.
Show off your personality!
Make sure the photo is clear, in focus, and the word on the sign is legible.
